I’m about to head out on the road for several weeks, so I’m making some slight changes to the blog as a small test. I’ll try to post once a week or so from the road, but I won’t have access to my computer while I’m out there. Instead I’ll be testing out my new toy, the iPhone. This will be a good test of how it will work while out on the trail– on the AT and PCT finding internet access in towns was a huge time sink. Now I can see how it might work if I have my own little internet source in my phone. I’ll have to learn to thumb-type, though. I hope I’m not too old to learn that trick.
The changes to the blog here that I’m going to try:
-First, I’ve got that “Followers” roster on the main page now to try to boost my ego by getting more people to click the Follow button. Let’s see if we can break into the double digits! Go team!
-Second, I’m adding a new thing to the top of the blog. So far up there, I’ve only had pages about my hikes and me, but I’m adding one for the Camden Hills. It includes a map of the trails, and some links to books and maps that I think are of interest if you want to know about the area. I’m trying this out because I don’t want to put ads on main part of the page, but I’m intrigued by the idea of earning a few cents here and there through the blog. I’ll try to add a similar page for the Mahoosuc Mountains and one for the Long Trail before the summer is over. Maybe of interest to some of you out there.
-Third, I’m interested in hearing from readers what you’re most interested in on this blog. Are the gadgets on the sidebar (Labels, recent comments, etc.) useful? What sort of posts do you enjoy or not enjoy? Are there features I should add or take away from the blog? Are there creepy gremlins living in the page?
That’s all for now. I’ll be on the road from tomorrow until June 11, approximately. I’ve got a few scheduled posts for the rest of this week while I’m starting out on the road, but after that I’m winging it. I’ll try to update the blog with trip reports when I can. Enjoy!
